Viewpoint Pluralism
Viewpoint Pluralism is a philosophy about our
knowledge of the world. More precisely, it is a philosophy about points of view.
Here are the principles of Viewpoint Pluralism:
1.
There are indefinitely many distinct points of view.
2.
Our knowledge is proportional to the number and kind of points of view we take.
3. What
points of view we ought to take depends on our purposes.

The idea behind Viewpoint Pluralism is
that we understand something better when
we see it from many angles. When you drive
by a house on a street and see it from the front, you see it from one angle. If you
stop and look inside, you also see it from the inside. If you take a tour of the
whole house, including the basement and the attic, you understand it that much better.
During this process you also acquire additional knowledge about the house by finding
out about its materials of construction, price, history, and color.
Application to Industrial Market Research
At Flow Research, we apply Viewpoint Pluralism to market research by presenting many
different perspectives in our market research studies. Our studies include the following
components:
- Product and Technology Analysis
- Market Shares
- Market Size and Projected Growth
- Market Segmentation by Industry and Geographic Region End-User
Analysis
- Strategies
- Trends and Driving Forces
- Company Profiles
By analyzing an industrial market from all these different perspectives,
we give you a complete understanding of it. If an industrial market were a house,
we would give you a complete tour of the house from top to bottom, and also give
you a written report on the history, color, materials of construction, heat-efficiency,
cost, and projected life of the house. A Flow Research study gives you the knowledge
you need to make sound marketing and product decisions.
We Offer Knowledge, Not Opinion
Some market research companies interview fifteen suppliers and summarize what they've
heard, basing their forecasts on the views of the suppliers. This is a one-sided
view that doesn't tell you anything you don't already know. At Flow Research, we
interview end-users as well as suppliers, so we can tell you what your customers
are looking for and what their spending plans are. This
is knowledge, not opinion. By learning what your customers
want and what their buying patterns are, we provide a balanced view that takes all
relevant factors into account.
