As you may know, since June 2000 Flow Research has been conducting a worldwide study of the flowmeter market. This study includes all flow technologies, and it is divided into two phases. Phase One includes new technology flowmeters: Coriolis, ultrasonic, magnetic, vortex, and differential pressure (DP). Phase Two includes the traditional technologies: turbine, positive displacement, thermal, variable area, and open channel.
I am writing to let you know about an important new development with respect to these studies. Call us overachievers, but in fact we have developed so much data with respect to the new technology flowmeters that it is impossible to present this data in a single study. As a result, we have decided to publish an individual study on each of the new technology flowmeters. These studies will be available in April 2001. In April, we will publish the following studies:
· Volume I: The World Market for Coriolis Flowmeters
· Volume II: The World Market for Magnetic Flowmeters
· Volume III: The World Market for Ultrasonic Flowmeters
· Volume IV: The World Market for Vortex Flowmeters
· Volume V: The World Market for New Technology Flowmeters
Volume V will include data on the growth of DP flowmeters, including multivariable DP transmitters. It will also compare the growth of the other new technology flowmeters to the growth of DP flowmeters, and to each other.
In addition to the five studies listed above, we have nearly completed a worldwide survey of 300 flowmeter users. We have already completed 100 interviews in North America and 100 in Europe. The calls to Asian users are ongoing. This survey is being conducted in association with Ducker Research. The results of this survey will be issued as a separate study, also available in April 2001:

While some companies just look at supplier data, we believe it is important to look at what the customers are saying to get a balanced perspective on the flowmeter market. And since customers are worldwide, not just in the United States, we have translated our 16-page questionnaire into French, German, Japanese, and Chinese. All interviews are conducted by telephone. Using this data, we expect to be able to spot regional differences in flowmeter use. We see this as a more reliable approach than surveying the United States and then generalizing to the world.
The data gathering for Phase Two of the series is already underway, and we will be issuing separate studies on the following technologies: open channel, positive displacement, thermal, turbine, and variable area. In addition, there will be a traditional technologies study that compares and contrasts the growth in these five technologies. These studies will be available in September 2001.
These studies will be the most comprehensive look ever taken of the worldwide flowmeter market. While other companies may publish a study here and a study there, we believe it is important to study these flowmeter markets together. This is the only way to get a completely accurate picture of these markets. And by conducting a comprehensive worldwide user survey, we also gain an understanding what customers are saying about what types of flowmeters they are using, and what their purchasing plans are. This user survey covers all flowmeter technologies.

Your participation in this landmark series of studies is all the more important because we are publishing a complete study on every type of flowmeter. Ducker Research Company, Inc., together with Flow Research, is publishing a new series of studies on the worldwide flowmeter market. The series is called Worldflow™, and it contains 12 studies. The first six studies will be available for shipping in April 2001, and they are as follows:

This is the most comprehensive look ever taken at the worldwide flowmeter market. The research has been ongoing since June 2000. As part of the research, we conducted over 200 interviews and made 27 onsite company visits. These visits help provide in-depth analysis of flowmeter products, as well as insight into the internal structure of many companies. Our project team of six people, not including the many people involved in conducting the end-user surveys, has worked for thousands of hours to bring these completely up-to-date studies to you.
Each individual study is complete with market size, market shares, strategies for success, and company profiles. Volume V, the New Technology study, compares the market sizes and growth rates of Coriolis, magnetic, ultrasonic, and vortex flowmeters. It also includes data on differential pressure (DP) flowmeters and multivariable flowmeters.
Volume VI, our Worldwide Survey of Flowmeter Users, gives the results of interviews with 300 flowmeter users worldwide: 100 in North America, 100 in Europe, and 100 in Asia. We translated our 16-page questionnaire into French, German, Japanese, and Chinese to do these interviews. All interviews were conducted by phone. This is an unprecedented effort to determine the views and purchasing plans of flowmeter users worldwide.
